In keeping with the title, Love Songs captures Miles Davis at his romantic best. These cuts were culled from classic studio dates (and one concert) recorded between 1957 and 1964, and the intimate sound of Davis's trumpet unifies the nine poignant ballads chosen for this loving compilation.

Here is an album that showcases the many talents of Andre Previn, composer-conductor-arranger-andpianist. His versatility further extends into the performance fields where he is just as much at home with jazz, the blues, popular music and with the classics. One week, Andre may be heard playing jazz in a swank night club; the following week, he will be performing with one of the great symphony orchestras; and a little later on, you will find him conducting for a top Hollywood motionpicture score.

Tenor saxophonist Chico Freeman's third recording as a leader has been reissued on this CD. The 24-minute three-part 'Moments' (which has been expanded a little for the reissue) and 'And All the World Moved' are explorative duets by Freeman and bassist Cecil McBee while the 16-minute 'Merger' (the set's highpoint) finds the pair joined by pianist Muhal Richard Abrams (who is in excellent form), drummer Steve McCall and percussionist Tito Sampa.

Commissioned in part by the SWR for the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2010, this music is an insane and mind-bending stew of scrambled bebop, disjointed unison rhythms, 20th century nostalgia and hallucinatory live electronics.
