Listening to the first measures of The Tides Return Forever you can hear, this is the CD from Eloy. The music can still be compared with the cathedral of Cologne, majestic, impressive and pompous, so in this way there is nothing changed. Sometimes I hear synthesizer-sounds, which I have heard before, but the instrument is still not used to imitate other instruments, which I think is a good thing.

The CD opens with "The Day of the Crimson Skies" which sounds familiar. It is followed by "Fatal Illusions" and the opening of this song reminds a bit of "Astral Entrance", from Silent Cries And Mighty Echoes. The closing song is the beautiful "Company of angels", which is dedicated to Jeanne d'Arc. It starts quiet with dulcimer-like sounds, which seems to symbolize the frail Jeanne d'Arc. After some time, her arming is marching in the room, in the form of a heavier piece, with an impressive choir-part. This is alternated with quieter passages.

Next to the heavy pieces, there are also songs on the CD, which are more quiet-sounding, like "Childhood Memories", which contains beautiful stereo-effects, and the title-song which is carried by acoustic guitar and some heavier passages, with choir-vocals, which reminds of Pink Floyd. The music sounds familiar, but it is not backdated and the group appears still very much alive. A real must-have for all Eloy fans and other lovers of heavy symphonic rock.
